Evangelical Church in Neidenstein

The Evangelical Church in Neidenstein in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis in Baden-Württemberg is a building that got its present form mainly in the Baroque period . Numerous grave monuments of the Lords of Venningen are preserved in the church. Like the Evangelical Church in Eschelbronn , it belongs to the Evangelical Church Community of Eschelbronn-Neidenstein.

history

Although the baroque Protestant church in its current form was built around 1700 and the tower was not completed by Franz-Joseph Remlinger until 1770 , it is probably already as old as Neidenstein Castle , because foundations in favor of the Neidensteiner Church date back to the 14th century Century handed down. A special feature of the church is the installation of the altar on the south wall of the nave. This floor plan resulted from an expansion of the nave to the east, which fell victim to the former altar area. The church was renovated in 1976.

Furnishing

Inside the church numerous tombstones and monuments from the 15th to 18th centuries have been preserved. The two largest grave monuments are the epitaph of Ottheinrich von Venningen († 1611), adorned with an alabaster relief , and the large baroque epitaph of the imperial sergeant-general Eberhard Friedrich von Venningen († 1710). In addition, there are tombstones of Conrad von Venningen († 1415), Eucharius von Venningen (?) († 1505), Hans von Venningen († 1432), Carl von Venningen († 1718) and several unidentifiable stones in the church for the wives and children of the Lords of Venningen.

The Neidensteiner Madonna found in the church's granary in 1914 is a woodwork from the workshop of Peter Parler and is now in the State Museum in Karlsruhe. The figure comes from the town's old cemetery chapel from the 15th century, which was demolished around 1878.
