Johann von Venningen († May 22, 1432 ) was Imperial Knight of the left Neidenstein line of the Lords of Venningen . From 1417 until his death he was court master at the Palatinate court in Heidelberg .

family

Johann von Venningen was the son of Johann von Venningen († 1425), Faut zu Heidelberg , and Agnes von Lautern. Johann was married twice: the first to Margret von Zeiskam , the second to Margret von Lustadt . The first marriage had four children: Johann , Bishop of Basel from 1458 to 1478 , Siegfried († 1444), married to Christina von Niefern , Anna, married to Ulrich von Rechberg , and Jost von Venningen , German Master of the Teutonic Order . The son Dieterich comes from his marriage to Margret von Lustadt, who, like his father, became court master of the Palatinate Elector and died in 1464.

According to the younger Seelbuch of the Speyer cathedral monastery, the later Bishop of Basel and then Speyer cathedral dean Johann von Venningen endowed an annual memorial there for his mother "Margaretha de Lustat", who died on July 15, 1450 . The Seelbuch explicitly names Johann von Venningen her son. It is possible that no distinction is made here between son and stepson, otherwise this would be an indication that the bishop is descended from the second marriage of his father. Likewise, in 1452, on the 30th anniversary of his father's death, he also donated an annual measurement memory for him, on which the date of death is also noted.

Life

The frequent occurrence of the name Johann in the family of the Lords of Venningen, the father and brother of the father and other relatives were also called Johann, make the assignment of the biographical information very difficult.

In 1417 Johann von Venningen became court master of the Elector in Heidelberg, making him the highest bailiff of the Electoral Palatinate and service director of the bailiffs. As court master he held the highest position of judge and presided over the court deliberations.

In 1426 Johann von Venningen took part as court master at the Reichstag in Nuremberg , together with the Speyer bishop Raban von Helmstatt , Count Emich von Leiningen and Master Peter they formed the electoral Palatinate embassy . He was also active at the Electoral Congress in 1426 in Frankfurt .

In 1431 Johann von Venningen confirmed to Count Ulrich von Württemberg that he owned Rappenau Castle and all its accessories. After his death, his son Siegfried was in 1434 with the castle Neidenstein invested .

Johann von Venningen , the Vitztum of the Electoral Palatinate of the same name in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, was his cousin.
