The Evangelical Church in Reilingen in the Rhein-Neckar district in the north-west of Baden-Württemberg was built between 1819 and 1820 by Wilhelm Frommel (1759 - 1837) in the classicist style .

history

After Elector Ottheinrich introduced the Reformation in the Electoral Palatinate in 1556 , Reilingen, like the rest of the country, was subject to frequent changes of denomination before the old Wendelinskirche was assigned to the Reformed in the Palatinate church division in 1705 . The parish, however, was united with Walldorf and was not occupied again until after 1726. Because of the dilapidation of the Reilingen church, the services in Walldorf and Hockenheim had to be attended. In 1731 Johann Jakob Rischer proposed a new building, which should be designed according to the model of the Reformed Church in Walldorf. Then, however, in 1739 the old church was repaired.

At the beginning of the 19th century, a new building could no longer be avoided. A first plan has come down to us from 1808. The foundation stone was laid in 1819 and the church was consecrated the following year. Around a hundred years later, the congregation was faced with another decision as to whether a new church should be built, as recommended by the head of the church building inspection, Hermann Behaghel, in 1906. The reasons for this lay in the increased population and damage to the building fabric. The decision was delayed again and again until the church was completely renovated in 1951. In 2005 the church was renovated.

description

The Protestant church is on the main street of Reilingen. Landbaumeister Wilhelm Frommel created a classicist building based on the work of Friedrich Weinbrenner . The church tower with its pyramid roof is almost completely drawn in. The window arrangement follows the two-storey galleries inside, which have been preserved in their original form, as well as the chairs and the table altar. The coat of arms of the Electoral Palatinate was walled into the ground floor hall, once the Gothic keystone of the previous church. The organ was built in 1963 by the Mann brothers and rebuilt in 1995 by Joachim Popp. The instrument has 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal . The ringing consists of three bells . Two of them were cast in 1950 after only one bell was allowed to be kept during World War II and the others had to be delivered.
