The Protestant parish church is a listed church building in Bad König , a town in the Odenwaldkreis ( Hesse ).

History and architecture

The stately defense tower with three storeys was built in 1479, it comes from a previous building. The crenellated wreath is built in neat cuboids under the pointed helmet that was later put on . A Roman tombstone was set into the masonry. It is now in the gate of the Rentmeisterei and has been replaced by a copy.

The church was initially part of a fortified cemetery , later it was integrated into the complex of the Bad Königer Castle , which was expanded as the seat of a branch line of the County of Erbach . Count's pews from the 18th century are still in the church.

The hall building with a three-sided end and a flat ceiling was built between 1750 and 1751. The Erbach coat of arms is attached above the south portal with two putti . There are oculi above the windows . The three-sided galleries are two-storey in the west, they date, like most of the furnishings, from the 18th century.

The castle church with its 450 seats is the main church of the Evangelical parish of Bad König, which has 3,100 members and belongs to the Odenwald deanery of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau . On Sundays, 80 to 110 believers take part in the service.
