Evelyn Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire
Evelyn Emily Mary Cavendish GCVO CBE DJStJ (born Petty FitzMaurice , * 27. August 1870 , † 2. April 1960 at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire ) was a British nobleman and 38 years chatelaine ( Mistress of the Robes ) at Queen Mary .
Life
Lady Evelyn Petty-FitzMaurice was the eldest daughter of four children of the politician Henry Petty-FitzMaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne and his wife Lady Maud Evelyn Hamilton (1850-1932), a daughter of the Scottish nobleman James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Abercorn . From an early age, Evie , as she was called within the family, accompanied her parents abroad with her siblings, either to visit relatives or because of her father's military obligations.
On July 30, 1892, Lady Evelyn Petty-FitzMaurice married Victor Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington , the eldest son of Lt.-Col. In St. George's Church (Hanover Square) in the City of Westminster ( London ) . Lord Edward Cavendish and Lady Emma Elizabeth Lascelles. Her husband was one of the largest private landowners in the UK and Ireland . The marriage, which all reports said was a happy one, had seven children:
