Everyone Is Everybody Else is the fifth studio album by the English rock band Barclay James Harvest (BJH). With nine songs it was released on June 14, 1974 by Polydor as LP ; On June 2, 2003, Polydor / Universal released a remaster version on CD that was expanded by five bonus songs .

Creation and publication

After the fourth album Baby James Harvest , whose reviews and sales figures remained below expectations, the band left their previous record company EMI and switched to Polydor. With the new label and the new producer Rodger Bain , an album with an expensive orchestra should not be recorded again. The collaboration with Bain, who had previously mainly produced hard rock bands like Black Sabbath , was not to the satisfaction of the band. The first CD version of the album (Polydor) was released in 1987, and a remaster (Polydor / Universal) containing five bonus songs was released in 2003.

On the tour that followed the release of Everyone Is Everybody Else , Barclay James Harvest's first live album was recorded; it was released in 1974 with the name Live .

style

With the new producer, Barclay James Harvest largely leave the opulent orchestral arrangements of the previous albums behind and turn more towards art pop and art rock with harmony vocals and occasional folk influences. There are echoes of the styles from The Beatles , Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Pink Floyd .

reception

Although the band themselves weren't happy with Everyone Is Everybody Else , the album became a critical and sales hit. In Allmusic it is described as the best by Barclay James Harvest to date - partly because of its "incredibly profound" sound. The baby blue pages read, among other things: “A rich mid-70s soft rock prog sound in the musical tension between Beatles, Crosby Stills & Nash and Pink Floyd; Sound quality significantly better than on the otherwise almost comparable Once again . ”The eclipsed magazine praised the“ engaging, tasty, short numbers ”and included the album in its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
