Ewald George von Lettow

Ewald George von Lettow (* 1698 ; † January 1777 in Klentzin ) was a Prussian colonel and chief of the garrison regiment of the same name .

Life

His parents were the Prussian district administrator Klaus Heinrich von Lettow († 1742), heir of Dammen and Klentzin , and his wife Barbara Hedwig (born March 28, 1673, † March 25, 1718), born von Hindenburg and widow of Adam Heinrich von Blumenthal (1654-1693). A son from their first marriage and thus his stepbrother was the future Minister Adam Ludwig von Blumenthal .

Lettow entered Prussian service in 1718 and fought in the First and Second Silesian Wars . In 1745 he became a major in the infantry regiment "von Hessen-Darmstadt" . During the Seven Years' War he became a lieutenant colonel in 1756 and a colonel and regimental commander in February 1757 . He fought near Reichenberg , Prague and Kunersdorf , where he was wounded. In the battle of Maxen he and the regiment were taken prisoner by Austria. Lettow was exchanged in 1760, but was no longer suitable for field service and therefore became chief of the "von Jungkenn" garrison regiment. In 1763 he received his farewell with a pension .

Lettow retired to his Klentzin estate, where he died in January 1777. He was married. In 1773 he transferred his Klentzin estate to his only son, Captain Nikolaus Heinrich von Lettow, while he was still alive.
