Ewald Wessling (born January 21, 1961 in Neuwied ) is a German economist . He teaches as a professor for new forms of communication at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences , where he heads the Public Relations course and is Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Vogel Communications Group and a guest on the Board of Trustees of the Ferdinand Heine Foundation.

Life

Wessling, son of the engineer Josef Gerhard Wessling and Hiltrud Wessling , b. Hauschild, passed the Abitur at the Peace School in Münster and then studied economics, journalism and philosophy there. From 1983 to 1984 he did his community service at the DJK Sportschule in Münster. In 1986, Wessling completed his studies with a degree in economics and joined Manfred Borchert in 1990 with the work Individual and Information. The acquisition of information and knowledge in economic theories of action is a doctorate . For his work he received the dissertation prize of the Westphalian Wilhelms University.

From 1990 to 2006 Wessling worked as a manager in the magazine industry and most recently as managing director of a medium-sized publishing house. During that time he studied from 2000 to 2005 in programs at Harvard Business School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business . From 2006 to 2010 Wessling was Professor of Communication in Digital Change at the SRH Hochschule Calw and SRH Hochschule Berlin . Since 2010 he has been professor for new forms of communication at the University of Hanover.

Wessling deals with the effects of digital change on society, people and companies. To this end, he gives seminars and gives lectures, among other things, at congresses, management meetings or company customer events. He is interview partner on these topics for WDR , SWR and SAT 1, among others .

Wessling was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Wizelife AG ​​from 2011 to 2017 and is Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Vogel Communications Group , a German specialist media company, as well as a guest on the Board of Trustees of the Ferdinand Heine Foundation.

Ewald Wessling is married and has four children.
