The St. Ewalds Church in Bodstedt is a former pilgrimage chapel from the 15th century in the Bodstedt district of the Western Pomeranian community of Fuhlendorf .

history

A church in Bodstedt was mentioned for the first time in 1388 . The current building dates from the 15th century: after 1465 it was built as a pilgrimage chapel for St. Ewald ( Low German for St. Ubald von Gubbio ). This happened after a rescue from distress in January 1457. Bodstedt is attested as a place of pilgrimage between 1474 and 1508.

In 1785 the western yoke with the arched window was added.

Furnishing

Only the nine square Tauffünte of granite and the intricate mural on the north side are from the medieval receive equipment. The rest of the inventory is just as baroque as the beamed ceiling decorated with acanthus paintings.

The pulpit , decorated with biblical scenes and evangelist images, the desk angel and a panel with the baptism of Jesus date from the late 17th century. The altarpiece from 1741 shows a picture of the Lord's Supper and above as a group of figures the transfiguration of the Lord : Jesus between Moses and Elias in front of the three disciples Peter, James and John.

In 1934 Bernhard Hopp made the figurative wall paintings. The ship models below the pulpit also date from the 20th century. There is a flood mark from 1872 on the brick building.

organ

The two-manual organ was built in 1887 by the Stralsund organ builder Friedrich Albert Mehmel .
