The Expositurkirche Innerlaterns is a Roman Catholic church in the Laternsertal in the municipality of Laterns . The church building is a listed building and belongs to the parish of Laterns in the Rankweil deanery , which belongs to the diocese of Feldkirch . The church with the patronage: "Our Lady Mariahilf" is consecrated to Saint Mary, mother of Jesus in her function as a helper in need and the patronage is celebrated annually at the beginning of December.

history

As a previous building there was a chapel in honor of St. Theodul and Rochus. In 1893 the chapel received its own cemetery and a baptismal font. In 1908 the Expositurkirche was built in the neo-Gothic style. For a long time in the 19th century it was intended to establish Innerlaterns as a separate parish, but it was only left with a certain degree of independence.

The Expositurkirche was inaugurated on October 13, 1909 by Expositus Johann Büchel.

In 1910 , the Central Commission for Monument Preservation (now BDA ) spoke out against the demolition of the old chapel with the roof turret that characterizes the townscape . The chapel was subsequently used as a warehouse for commercial purposes and was badly damaged by a fire in 1950.

location

The church ( 1047  m above sea level ) forms part of the center of the village of Innerlaterns and architecturally dominates the place. The church is located on the parcel “St. Maria ”, is located directly on Laternserstraße (L 51) and has house no. 87a. The cemetery is located south of the church building. To the west (parking lot) and south of the parcel, Unterwaldstraße runs past.

architecture

The church was built according to the plans of Fidel Kröner (1839-1904), only after his death. The chancel ( chancel ) is to the east and is separated from the nave (nave) by a choir arch. The choir arch is pointed at the top ( pointed arch ) and has a choir arch crucifix in the middle, similar to the late Gothic choir arch in Ulm Minster , but without painting. The church is oriented from east to west. The church building is about 15 m high, about 23 m long, 9 m wide. The tower about 35 m high.

The floor in the interior is tiled. The nave is illuminated through ogival windows.

The tower with the four double ogival sound openings is located at the level of the choir arch and is attached to the north. The one-story sacristy is built on the south side at the level of the choir (towards the cemetery).

The church and cemetery are largely surrounded by a stone wall with an attached metal grille.

Furnishing

No side altars are installed in front of the choir arch, but a statue of St. Mary and right of Jesus .

The high altar is raised slightly from the floor of the choir and has a Gothic design and stylistically dominates the otherwise simple choir room. Behind the high altar is a glass window, partly in stone, which shows Mary with the child. To the left of this central window is a statue of St. Nicholas with a chalice, which dates from around the 16th century. The figure of St. Theodul was created by Master Erasmus Kern (1592-after 1650). The hll. Nikolaus and Theodul are the patrons of the Walser .

In front of the high altar is a folk altar made of fir wood. The pews, carved pulpit , confessional are in the same style and color. Likewise, the picture frames of the stations of the cross , the gallery and the exterior cladding of the organ.
