history

In 1493 there is a documentary record of the construction of a chapel consecrated to St. Thomas by a noble family. Wald received its own priest for the first time in 1691 and four years later, in 1695, the Wald church was elevated to the status of a chaplain church. A fire in 1754 severely damaged the church. During the reconstruction the building was enlarged in the neo-Gothic style. In 1907, Wald got its own cemetery and was elevated to the status of a branch church. In 1909 the church burned again. In 1911 and 1912 it was restored by master builder Hörmann from Mötz. This is how it got its current appearance. The last interior restoration was completed in 1982.
