history

Around 1000 the first farms were built in this area, the so-called " Schwaighöfe ", which at that time had to pay taxes (grain, cheese, meat ...) to a count or to the monastery in Stams . A small part of the village called Schwaighof still reminds of this time today. In 1640 there were already 54 inhabited houses in Wald, currently there are around 150.

In 1493 St. St. Thomas Chapel, which burned down twice in the course of history - the current church was rebuilt in 1910 in neo-Gothic style.

There has been a one-class school in Wald since 1897, before lessons were held in farm rooms. Today's primary school was expanded in 1996/97 and is now two-class.

tradition

Every four years, Wald organizes a carnival that is somewhat similar to the Imst Schemenlauf.

Buildings

One of the sights is the Benni-Raich-Brücke , a pedestrian suspension bridge over the Pitzenklamm between Arzl and Wald. It spans the Pitzenklamm at a height of 94 m with a span of 138 m and is often used for bungee jumping . There are also earth pyramids near the village . You can visit this sight on a beautifully laid out path that also leads past the forest waterfall.
