Ezequiel Mosquera (2011)

Ezequiel Mosquera Miguez (born November 19, 1975 in Cacherias-Teo ) is a former Spanish cyclist .

Career

Ezequiel Mosquera began his career in 1999 with the Portuguese cycling team Paredes Rota dos Moveis . There he won a stage of the Vuelta a Tierras de Santa María straight away . In his final year there, he won the Klasika Primavera before moving to Cantanhede in 2003. After another year at Carvalhelhos-Boavista , he went to Kaiku in 2005 , where he won a stage of the Vuelta a La Rioja . A year later, Mosquera switched to the Spanish Professional Continental Team Comunidad Valenciana , which, however , was disbanded after the doping incidents around Fuentes . From 2007 to 2010 he drove for Karpin-Galicia , which was called Xacobeo Galicia since 2009 . It got him for this team in the years 2007-2009 three times placements in the top five of the Vuelta a España . However, he never managed to win a stage on the three-week tour.

He celebrated his apparently greatest success at the Vuelta a España 2010 . On the penultimate stage, the mountain finish on the steep and 22-kilometer long Bola del Mundo , Mosquera attacked the leader of the overall standings, Vincenzo Nibali , almost four kilometers from the summit , behind whom he was 50 seconds behind in the overall standings. Known as a mountain specialist, Mosquera was able to distance all pursuers except Nibali, cross the finish line first and finish the tour second in the overall standings. On September 30, 2010, however, it was announced that Mosquera and his teammate David García had tested positive for the doping agent HES in this race . HES is a blood plasma expander that does not increase performance, but is suitable for masking other doping substances. After he was banned by the Spanish Cycling Federation for the period from November 16, 2011 to November 15, 2013 and all of his results were canceled since September 12, 2010, his new team, the UCI ProTeam Vacansoleil-DCM , terminated the contract towards the end of 2011 formal after he was not deployed to the team during 2011 due to the procedure. Since then, Mosquera is no longer active as a rider in international cycling. In early 2015, it became known that a Spanish civil court lifted the ban.
