Ezra Tsegaye

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ezra Tsegaye (born March 25, 1976 in Asmara, Eritrea ) is a German graphic designer , storyboard artist , comic artist and director from Berlin.

Life

Ezra Tsegaye was born during the Eritrean War of Independence against Ethiopia. His mother moved with him to Germany in 1979, where he became a German citizen. From 1988 to 1992 he attended the Friedendsburg Comprehensive School in Berlin. It was here that his talent for drawing began to develop, he wrote his first comic stories and worked as a draftsman for the school newspaper.

After school he took up a job in a branch of the video rental chain Videodrom and used the time to acquire a great deal of cinematic knowledge. This also resulted in his preference for films of the horror and action genre. In 1999 he applied as a comic artist with a self-made multimedia CD to the company "Kindercampus" at the time, which produced child-friendly websites, and was employed as a graphic designer . In 2003 he started his own business as a graphic designer and storyboard artist (including for Dr. Alemán , The International and various Tatort episodes) and has since worked in these roles for various international and national film, series and other TV productions.

Supported by these experiences, Ezra Tsegaye began his first film attempts (Big Johnson, Attack of the radioactive Mutant from outer Space) with Super-8. From the beginning he combined real film with drawn and animated comic elements. Together with others he initiated the comic project “Turmspringer”, for which he drew the first part “Turmspringer 01” and later animated it, thus creating the first German motion comic, which was shown at the 2007 Berlinale . Another important step for him was the work on the independently financed project for the first German 3D action film Night tale 3D . Even if the film did not leave the project phase for financial reasons, the filmed material was used by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft for research work in the 3D area due to its excellent visual quality . Also during this time, interactive children's stories ( Little Ezra's Tales for Kids ) were created in collaboration with Jörg Olvermann . In the following years, Ezra Tsegaye produced various short films that were shown at film festivals and were nominated several times and received awards. In 2016, Ezra Tsegaye began working with the independent producer Sebastian Wolf on his first full-length feature film, the horror comedy Skin Creepers , for the well-known actors ( Nicolás Artajo , Dieter Landuris , Barbara Prakopenka , Thomas Schmuckert , Sesede Terziyan , Annika Strauss , Mai Duong Kieu ) and erotic stars ( Micaela Schäfer ) could be won.
