Fatima Silva

Fátima Silva (born May 6, 1970 ) is a former Portuguese long-distance runner who specialized in the marathon distance .

Career

Initially, Silva was also successful in the medium-distance segment. In 1996 and 1997 she was Portuguese indoor champion in the 1500-meter run , in 1996 and 1998 in the 3000-meter run . However, she soon switched to longer distances. From 1999 to 2008, Silva won every year, with the exception of 2003, at the Portuguese marathon championships, which were held as part of the Lisbon Marathon . She also won the overall ranking of the marathon five times.

At international championships Silva could not achieve comparable success. In the marathon of the 1999 World Athletics Championships in Seville, she finished 31st, 19th at the 2002 European Athletics Championships in Munich and 50th at the 2003 World Athletics Championships in Paris. On the other hand, she achieved top positions in some city marathons. In addition to her successes in Lisbon, she was third in the Hamburg Marathon in 2002 with a personal best of 2:32:01 hours and eighth there the following year. She also finished second in the 2004 Valencia Marathon and won the Porto Marathon in 2005 .
