Five Friends ( The Famous Five , television series from 1978. It is based on the Five Friends series by British author Enid Blyton .
) is a Britishcontent
The siblings Julian, Dick and Anne meet their cousin George and their dog Timmy (a border collie ) during their holidays . Together they go on adventures, solve puzzles and thus also help the police.
backgrounds
The implementation of the five friends series takes place in the present of the 1970s. The individual episodes adhere very closely to the stories of the novel. The film was shot in various locations in England, mostly in the Exbury area.
The series was made with the participation of ZDF - they also insisted on German actors being cast. Also with the five was considered to cast at least one German child actor, which would have led to unnecessary problems due to language barriers on the set. Finally, it was agreed on Michelle Gallagher - she had German ancestors.
The Poly label released a series of radio plays based on the original dubbed tracks from the television series. Radio play production Europe also had the children's dubbing actors re-record their roles soon afterwards and produced 21 radio plays, the covers of which clearly showed the remark "In the main roles the original speakers of the German TV series" could be found. This also were five on Treasure Island , five friends make a discovery and Five Have Plenty of Fun set to music that were not filmed in the TV series. The lesser known short stories, which only became better known with the publication of the volume Five Friends Master Every Danger in 1996, were not made into a film. The Blyton script of The Famous Five - Adventure, discovered in 2000, was also not made into a film .
The series was broadcast several times on German television.
In 1996, another television series with the same title was created , based on Enid Blyton's template, which is why the old series was broadcast less often on German television. While the 1995 film version of the Five Friends had been available on DVD in Germany for a long time, the 1978 series, which was far more popular with many fans, was a long time coming. Nobody seemed to own the rights to the film. Due to the efforts of countless fans, these issues have been resolved. The forum and the team of the Five Friends Fanpage played a decisive role . In Germany, the 1978 series first appeared on DVD and Blu-ray in autumn 2010.
The series was later also released on DVD for the English-speaking world. In the English edition, the cover is almost identical, as is the scanned image material, but the booklet and the extras differ from the German edition. Both the DVD and BD versions contain unsynchronized passages that were cut and automatically subtitled for the first time in German for the first time, which were removed by ZDF when they were first broadcast to protect minors. For example, the discovery of a skull in the episode Five Friends Are Following the Beach Raiders (2) was not broadcast at the time. In the double episode ... help her comrade , the threat to George and later all five friends was cut with a revolver. The strongest shortening was made in the double sequence ... on the lighthouse : Here, the motifs of the brothers Ebeneezer and Jacob to find the pirate treasure were cut out in part 1 - but in another conversation between the two in episode 2, contrary to the English original, in the synchronization, albeit shortened, explained. Overall, the German dubbing is consistently more child-friendly and harmless than the original version.
Title song and credits
The theme music was composed by Rob Andrews. The English text is from Les Spurr. The same melody was used for the credits, but with a different text:
Title:
Whenever an adventure is worth it: We don't know fear and horror, because we're used to it. / Wherever there is a riddle to be solved: Up in the old castle or in the smuggler's nest. / We are five friends: Julian, Dick and Anne, George and Timmy the dog. / Five friends that’s us: We’ll come over quickly whenever you want us. / We come over quickly and we're there.
End credits:
Whatever lies behind forbidden doors: we don't know how to go back, we will discover it. / We don't let any danger slip away - trust in us, we'll tackle it, who can resist us? / We are five friends: Julian, Dick and Anne, George and Timmy the dog. / Five friends that’s us: We’ll come over quickly whenever you want us. / We come over quickly, and we're there, we're there.
