5 siblings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

5 Geschwister (formerly also: Five Siblings ) is the title of one of the most successful adventure series of Christian children's and youth literature in Germany .

history

The first volume in the series was published in 1980 under the title Five Siblings on the Adventure Castle by the then Schulte & Gerth publishing house . Inspired for his first book, Pastor Dieter B. Kabus had his own five children. In the unsuccessful search for suitable, exciting reading material with a Christian message for his daughter Esther from his first marriage and the four adoptive children Marianne, Petra, Hans-Georg and Alexander from his second marriage, Kabus finally decided to close the obvious gap in the market himself. The children became the heroes of his adventure stories by name. The success of the books confirmed the deficit that Kabus recognized on the Christian book market and, contrary to his plans, prompted him to end the series after the third volume, to write a total of ten volumes. In 1994 the series had already sold a total of 200,000 copies. Some books have also been translated into other languages such as Swedish, Norwegian and English.

The radio play adaptations by Günter Schmitz also tied seamlessly to the success of the books . The radio play cassettes were released in 1989 and 1990 in coproduction by the S + G and Bella Musica labels and were finally released on CD in 2006.

After Kabus died in 1993 in the middle of the preparations for an interactive adventure, his daughter Esther, married Brudermann, brought the project to a close. The book was published in 1994 under the title 5 Siblings - The Endless Story . Together with her husband Jesko, Esther A. Brudermann wrote a second interactive volume, which was published in 1996 under the title Who frees the 5 siblings? appeared. The author couple had previously released the board game 5 Geschwister auf der Abenteuerburg - Das Abenteuerspiel in 1994 .

The series developed into a Christian children's classic over several generations of readers and listeners. After 24 years since the publication of the tenth and, by then, last series of radio plays, the publishing house Gerth Medien presented the first two sequels by the team of authors Tobias Schuffenhauer and Tobias Schier with a public listening of the eleventh episode to 5 Siblings in the Mysterious Lighthouse .
