The FK Almaty ( Kazakh / Russian Алматы Футбол Клубы ) was a Kazakh football club from the former capital of the country, Almaty , which played in the Kazakh Premier League until 2008 .

history

The association was founded in 2000 as Zesna Almaty. In the 2004 season it was renamed FK Almaty and promoted to Superliga . The club was able to win the Kazakh Cup in 2006 by beating FK Astana and thus took part in qualifying for the UEFA Cup in the 2007/08 season . In spring 2009 the club merged with FK Megasport Almaty due to financial difficulties . The resulting team was named Locomotive Astana .
