The steam locomotive series kkStB 88 was a tank locomotive series of the imperial-royal state railways of Austria .

The locomotives of this series were delivered by Krauss in Linz from 1882 to 1885. They were designed for economic traffic on local trains (the 86.50–52 were intended for routes of the ÖLEG , for example ) and were also used at times on the Vienna light rail . They are likely to have proven themselves to some extent, as they were procured in relatively large numbers. Some of the machines were refueled after 1892 (see table).

After 1918 the machines were assigned to the PKP , the railways of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and the CFR , which did not give them their own serial numbers. In addition, the FS received a part as series  809 and the ČSD as series  222.0 (6 pieces). Ten copies came to the BBÖ , which they retired by 1929.

The kkStB had already used the serial number 88 to designate five locomotives of the Kaiserin Elisabeth-Bahn (KEB), which formed the basis for the 88 series procured by the kkStB. The machines that were still in existence were redesignated in 1905 as 188 .01-04. They also awarded the numbers 88.71-72 locomotives of the Bohemian Northern Railway (BNB), which at the same time in 288.71-72 were renumbered.
