Fabien Morat (born August 20, 1981 in Perpignan , Pyrénées-Orientales ) is a French badminton player and marine biologist . He starts in Parabadminton in the starting class SH6 in singles, doubles and mixed. Morat aims to participate in the 2020 Summer Paralympics . Professionally, he deals with the study of otoliths and the population biology of bony fish .

Athletic career

Fabien Morat only started badminton in 2007 to try a new sport. The cause of his short stature was only identified in 2011, so that Morat was allowed to compete in Parabadminton. At the 2017 Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Ulsan , South Korea , Morat and his doubles partner Alexander Mekhdiev won bronze against the English duo Krysten Coombs and Jack Shephard . In mixed he reached the final with Rebecca Bedford , where they were defeated by Andrew Martin and Rachel Choong . In Rodez Morat was defeated in the singles semi-finals of the home European championship Jack Shephard, who later won the title. In doubles he also won bronze with Alexander Mekhdiev. At the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Basel in 2019 , Morat and his partner Andrew Martin won bronze in doubles.

Morat studied marine biology and received his doctorate in 2011 at the University of the Mediterranean Aix-Marseille II in the south of France with a dissertation on the analysis of otoliths of sole . He is a research engineer at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and works in Perpignan at the Center de Recherches Insulaires et Observatoire de l'Environnement (CRIOBE), a joint institution of the University of Perpignan and CNRS. His research concerns the ear stones of various bony fish and the knowledge that can be gained through their analysis.
