Fabio Di Càsola

Fabio Di Càsola (born January 28, 1967 in Lugano ) is a Swiss clarinetist .

Career

In 1990, at the age of 23, Di Càsola won first prize at the Concours de Genève (Prix international d'interprétation & de composition), a music competition from Geneva .

This was followed by invitations to the Berlin Festival under the direction of Claudio Abbado , the Festival in Evian under the direction of Mstislav Rostropowitsch and, in Lockenhaus, to Gidon Kremer . He won the “Grand Prix Patek Philippe”, the “Prix Suisse” for contemporary music and the international competition for contemporary music in Stresa . In 1998 he was voted “Swiss Musician of the Year” by the jury and the public in Geneva. From 1991 to 2012 he was principal clarinetist in the orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur .

After a performance of Mozart's clarinet concerto in the Tonhalle Zurich , SONY decided to publish its recordings. Two chamber music CDs were followed in 2009 by an orchestral CD with the clarinet concertos by Carl Maria von Weber , which was awarded the 'Editor's Choice' by Gramophone Magazine. Later the CD SERENADE was published with songs transcribed for clarinet and string ensemble.

Fabio Di Càsola has appeared as a soloist with the Russian National Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Orchester de la Suisse Romande , Orchestra delle Svizzera Italiana, Lucerne Festival Strings and the Camerata Zurich, among others . He is also a member of various chamber music formations.

He is professor for clarinet and chamber music at the Zurich University of the Arts and has been the artistic director of the chamber music series www.klang.ch since 2006.
