Skilled worker for communications engineering

The skilled worker for communications technology was a technical profession in the GDR . The profession was introduced in 1970 and replaced the telecommunications mechanic that had been common up until then. Most of the jobs in this occupation were at Deutsche Post and Deutsche Reichsbahn , Energieversorgung, RFT, but also in the electrotechnical industry the skilled workers for communications technology could be found.

The training lasted 2.5 years, with the simultaneous acquisition of the Abitur 3 years. It was divided into basic training (1st year of training), specialization (2nd year of training) and on-the-job training in the 3rd year of training.

The following specializations were trained at Deutsche Post:

  • Switching technology ( NTV ),
  • Transmission technology ( NTÜ ),
  • Wired telecommunication lines, telecommunications construction ( NTD ),
  • Radio technology (NTFu),
  • Studio technology television (NTFs),
  • Studio technology broadcasting (NTRu),
  • Power supply technology (NTS).

In addition to switching technology, transmission technology and telex technology, training components were also electromechanics , electrical engineering (authorization to work on systems up to 1 kV voltage) and learning about various measurement methods.

Training took place at the company schools of the district offices of Deutsche Post. These schools were located in Berlin , Cottbus , Potsdam , Dresden , Erfurt , Frankfurt (Oder) , Halle (Saale) , Leipzig , Magdeburg , Neubrandenburg , Rostock , Schwerin and Karl-Marx-Stadt .

The directions radio technology, studio technology television, studio technology radio and power supply technology were only trained at the central operating school for radio / operating school of the radio directorate of the Deutsche Post in Königs Wusterhausen .
