Life

She was born in the Abdeen Palace in Cairo as the youngest daughter of Faruq , the second king of Egypt , and his first wife Safinaz Zulficar, who later bore the title Farida of Egypt . After her father was overthrown in a bloodless military coup in 1952 , the princess lived in Italy for two years . Then she was sent to a Swiss boarding school with her two sisters Farial and Fausia . Faida studied painting there , became an accomplished rider and met her future husband at college.

On February 17, 1965, she married Pierre Alexiewitsch Orloff (born December 13, 1938), a Swiss geologist and descendant of the Romanovs in London . He converted to Islam and took the name Sa'id Orloff. They had two sons, Michael-Shamel (born September 2, 1966) and Alexander-Ali (born July 30, 1969). The princess worked as a translator for Swiss tourism. She spoke French , English , Italian and Spanish .

Princess Fadia died in Lausanne and was buried in the ar-Rifa'i mosque in Cairo.
