Pale earth
The pale earth is a soil type from the Lessivés class . It is more acidic than the related parabrown earth , which has led to a significantly greater shift in clay. It occurs mainly under loess and marl boulder , but also on loamy sands.

When Fahl earth is under the humus horizon a clay migration ( Lessivierung ) from the Al horizon into deeper soil horizons with subsequent acidification instead. This acidification causes the emergence of a pale gray Ael horizon under the humus horizon; the transition to the Bt horizon is usually interlocked. It is a typical transition horizon (here Ael + Bt), which is diagnostic for the pale earth and is called the interlocking horizon. In addition, the soil aggregates in it are powdered white when dry, which is a consequence of the silt shifting and the destruction of clay minerals.
The ideal profile of the pale earth shows the horizon sequence Ah / Ael / Ael + Bt / Bt / C. It occurs widely as a relic soil . Their distribution extends to the humid middle latitudes of the humid-temperate climatic zone of North America, Europe and Asia. Pale soils are preferably used as pastureland, on arable sites they tend to erosion due to the silt content . Furthermore, the Bt horizon is prone to pseudo-gleying .

Systematics
In the Federal Republic of Germany, pale earths belong together with the parabrown earths to the class of Lessivés (L) within the Terrestrial Soils Department .
In the international soil classification World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) most Fahl earth become the Retisolen counted, but they can with insufficient development of diagnostic retic also, depending on their characteristics base saturation to the Luvisolen or Alisolen belong.
In the US soil classification system Soil Taxonomy they are counted among the Alfisols , e.g. B. Glossudalfs .
