The Barne- og familiedepartementet (short: BFD ) is the Norwegian ministry for children and families . Since January 2019, Kjell Ingolf Ropstad from the Christian Democratic Party Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF) has been the minister for children and families .

history

After a family and consumer ministry ( Familie- og forbrukerdepartementet ) existed from December 1956 to May 1972 , the ministry was re-established in 1991 under the name Barne- og familiedepartementet . In 2006 it was renamed Barneog likestillingsdepartementet (German: Ministry of Children and Equality ). In the period from 2010 to 2016 it was finally called Barne-, likestillings- og inkleringsdepartementet ( Ministry of Children, Equality and Inclusion ), before the inclusion area was handed over to the Ministry of Justice . As a result, the ministry was again renamed Barne og likestillingsdepartementet until January 2019 .

When the Christian Democrat Kristelig Folkeparti joined the Solberg government , the ministry was given its original name again, and the area of gender equality policy was transferred to the Ministry of Culture . This move was criticized by the opposition because it was suspected that they wanted to avoid KrF Minister Kjell Ingolf Ropstad being responsible for LGBT issues .

organization

The ministry is divided into five departments. There is a department for child protection, one for families and growing up, one for consumer, belief and life views, one for planning and administration and the communication department. Four state secretaries report to the minister .

Subordinate to the ministry include the Barne-, ungdoms- og familiedirektoratet (Bufdir), the Barneombudet, the consumer council Forbrukerrådet and the supervisory authority Forbrukertilsynet .

minister

On January 22, 2019, Kjell Ingolf Ropstad took over the office of Minister for Children and Family from his predecessor Linda Hofstad Helleland . The change came after Ropstad's KrF party joined the government and the ministerial post was transferred from the conservative Høyre to the KrF.
