Fany Solter

Fany Solter (* 1944 in Ilhéus , Brazil ) is professor for piano and piano chamber music , pianist and former rector of the Karlsruhe University of Music .

Live and act

Fany Solter was born in Brazil to Russian-Jewish parents. She studied in Rio de Janeiro and with Carl Seemann at the Freiburg University of Music . After completing her studies, she went to Brazil and returned to Germany after success there. She has won national and international music competitions and has given numerous solo, chamber music and orchestral concerts in Europe as well as in South America , Japan and Israel .

In 1972 Solter was initially assistant to Carl Seemann and then a lecturer at the Freiburg Music Academy . During this time she appeared in public and made a record with the conductor Hortense von Gelmini . In 1976 she was appointed professor for piano and piano chamber music at the Karlsruhe University of Music . After the sudden death of the then head Eugen Werner Velte , she took over his position in 1984 and was rector until 2001.

During her time at the Karlsruhe University of Music, Solter was the initiator of numerous projects that she pushed forward with commitment. So she sat down for a course of music journalism and founded a private university channels for the training of music and culture journalist, the " LernRadio ". This course is the first and only of its kind in Europe. The new teaching building, which is named Fany-Solter-Haus in her honor, was opened on October 4th, 2012.

Solter is a member of numerous committees and boards of trustees and co-founder of several music projects, such as the International Handel Academy Karlsruhe and the Society for the Promotion of the Arts “pro arte” Königsbach-Stein e. V. , of which she is the 1st chairwoman and artistic director. The founding of the music school Westlicher Enzkreis in 1987 goes back to her initiative.

Numerous radio and television recordings as well as the CD publications document the work of Fany Solter. She has performed in orchestral concerts such as the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Prague Symphony Orchestra both as a soloist and in an ensemble, working with conductors such as Kurt Masur , Werner Stiefel, Lukas Foss and Václav Smetáček .

In 2011 Solter was bid farewell to her active professional life as part of a concert under the motto “Fany Solter and Friends”, in which she also participated.

Honors

In 1988 she was awarded the “ Heitor Villa-Lobos ” medal by the Brazilian government for her long-standing commitment to spreading Brazilian music in Europe . In 1994 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany with the Order of Merit . In 1998 she became an honorary senator at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences . She received an honorary doctorate from the University of Karlsruhe in 2001.
