Faruk Karadoğan (born December 30, 1947 in Adana ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club. Fan and club members regard him as one of the more important players in club history. He was an important part of the Beşiktaş team that won the Turkish championship twice in a row for the first time .

Player career

Çukurova İdman Yurdu and Gençlerbirliği Ankara

The beginnings of Karadoğan's football career are not well documented. He started professional football in 1963 at Çukurova İdman Yurdu . With this club he took part in the second Futbol Ligi , the second highest league in Turkish football, introduced in the summer of 1963 . Despite his young age of 16, he managed to play the full length of 12 league matches, and was therefore nominated for the Turkish U-18 national team. At the end of the season, the first division team Gençlerbirliği Ankara secured the services of Karadoğan. After he was able to assert himself a league higher at this club too, he became one of the shooting stars of the 1966 summer transfer period.

Beşiktaş Istanbul

After Karadoğan was one of the most noticeable young players of the 1965/65 season, he was signed by the traditional Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul in the summer of 1966 . Here he was used in his first season by then head coach Ljubiša Spajić in 17 of the possible 30 league games. Despite his young age, he formed a successful offensive team with the other offensive players Ahmet Şahin , Ahmet Özacar , Yusuf Tunaoğlu , Sanlı Sarıalioğlu and Güven Önüt . So the season ended with the Turkish championship . Karadoğan contributed four goals and several assists to this success. The following season he and his team managed to defend their title and also win the President's Cup . In contrast to the previous season, Karadoğan played in almost all league games in this second season.

After these two championship titles, Karadoğan and his club remained without a title for a long time and lost out to their city rivals Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray . At the start of the 1971/72 season, after five untitled seasons, winning the TSYD Cup winner again won a title. Contrary to the performance of his team, Karadoğan increased his performance in the seasons 1967/1968 and 1968/69 and was once the second most successful goalscorer of his club and once the most successful. After these two seasons he kept his regular place for the next two seasons, but scored a total of six goals this season. In the 1971/72 season he was little taken into account by the new head coach Gündüz Kılıç in the squad planning and completed twelve games over the entire season, of which he completed only six over the full game length.

After Karadoğan was last not seeded in his team and the otherwise successful club could not win a prestigious title in the last five years, the club management decided to revise the squad. As a result of this revision, a. also put Karadoğan on the sales list.

Adanaspor

After Karadoğan was no longer seeded last season at Beşiktaş, he moved in the summer of 1972 to league rivals Adanaspor , the then strongest club in his hometown. Here he played most of the league games in his first season. The next two seasons he played no major role in the squad planning and completed four or five league games per season. His team finished both seasons in fourth place and thus achieved the best first division placement in the club's history. After he had only completed one league game in the 1975/76 season, he ended his career in the summer of 1976.

National team

Karadoğan began his career with the Turkish national teams in 1964 during his time with Çukurova İdman Yurdu with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team. He played for the Turkish U-18s until 1966. Later, at the age of 26, he played one last time for the U-18s in his country.

In the autumn of 1966 he was nominated by the Turkish international Adnan Süvari as part of a test match against the national team of the USSR in the squad of the Turkish national team . In this game he played the full length of the game and was part of the team that achieved one of the most important successes of the time with the 2-0 away win. For the next three years he was one of the regularly nominated players for the senior national team.

In 1967 he took part in the ECO Cup with the senior national team and won the tournament with his team.

Between his senior international appearances, Karadoğan also played regularly for the Turkish U-21 national team . For some of these players he was well over 21 years old.

Karadoğan played his last senior international game on January 17, 1969 in the game against the Saudi Arabian national team . In total, he was used in 14 international matches and scored one goal.
