In 1975 he completed a sports degree in Zagreb. He led the team that Dražen Petrović belonged to in the 1981/82 season in the final of the European club competition Korać Cup , where they were defeated by Limoges from France .
The cooperation with KK Šibenka came to an end after one season, from 1982 to 1985 he was a coach at KK Kvarner Rijeka , followed by two years at KK Pula (1985 to 1987). 1987/88 Kulenović Hapoel Jerusalem trained in the first division of Israel , in 1988/89 then in a second term KK Šibenka Šibenik. In 1990 Kulenović took on the position of coach at BG Charlottenburg in the basketball league . The move to Germany came about thanks to the mediation of Svetislav Pešić , the German national coach at the time. He led the BG to the German runner-up in 1991. With the Berliners he also took part in the European Korać Cup. In Berlin, Kulenović relied on a tactical approach that his Leverkusen coaching colleague Dirk Bauermann classified as an "ugly way of playing". Kulenović himself later said, looking back on the 1990/91 season, that his team had played "the ugliest basketball in the world," but that it was essential to win games to attract spectators as the club's economic situation was difficult. In the 1991/92 season Charlottenburg first appeared as Alba Berlin . Kulenović reached the final series of the German championship again with the team with players like Uwe Blab , Emir Mutapčić , John Dronsella and Matthias Strauss , but lost there as in the previous year against Bayer Leverkusen . During Kulenović's tenure in Berlin, the cooperation with TuS Lichterfelde was initiated, and he himself trained regularly with Lichterfeld's young players. Kulenović stayed in Berlin until 1993, in the 1992/93 season he was eliminated with the team in the Bundesliga quarter-finals.
