Federico Insúa , called El Pocho (born January 3, 1980 in Buenos Aires ), is an Argentine football player .
Career
The two-footed playmaker was active in his youth for Vélez Sarsfield, Club Parque and Argentinos Juniors. On November 18, 1997 he made his first division debut in the Primera División for Argentinos Juniors against Independiente. By winter 2001/02 he made ten goals in 35 championship games. During the 2001/02 season (winter break) he left this club and went to Independiente . In two seasons he played 57 championship games, in which he was successful as a goalscorer 19 times. He and his club won the Apertura championship in 2002.
For the 2003/04 season, Insúa moved to Europe on loan and signed with the Spanish first division club FC Málaga . There he completed 31 championship games in the Primera División and scored three goals. After the loan period expired, he returned to Independiente in South America. In his last season with this club, he scored nine goals in 35 championship games.
For the 2005/06 season, Insúa moved to Boca Juniors for a transfer fee of around 2.8 million US dollars and was with them the Argentinian champions of both the Apertura and the Clausura half of the season. Insúa contributed eleven goals in 37 championship games.
For the 2006/07 season, Insúa moved to the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach for an estimated € 4.5 million and thus to Europe for the second time in his career, making him the most expensive purchase in Gladbach's club history. On February 3, 2007, he scored his first Bundesliga goal for Mönchengladbach in the away game in Bielefeld. However, he could not meet the high expectations, which is why Borussia announced the sale of Insúa on June 21, 2007. The midfielder moved to Mexico for CF América for around € 4.2m . At the beginning of 2009 he was awarded to Necaxa for six months within the Mexican League . There he could not prevent the club from being relegated. Insua was awarded again for the new season. This time to his former club Boca Juniors . Federico Insúa moved again to the UEFA area for the 2010/11 season and was hired by the then Turkish champions Bursaspor . At the beginning of 2012 he moved back to Argentina and has since played for CA Vélez Sársfield again .
Federico Insúa has so far completed 14 international matches for the Argentine national football team . He made his debut on January 31, 2003 in a friendly against Honduras . His last international match was a friendly against Jamaica on February 11, 2010 in Mar del Plata .
