action

At the birth of Philip vu Jesus de las Casas, his father sees the appearance of a shining cross.

As a young man, Philip devoted himself to theology and called himself Felipe de Jesús. There is an inner unrest there. He meets the young Rosalia, who is already engaged to Cristobal de Villahermosa. When Philip falls in love with Rosalia, he leaves the order, which is rejected by his father. A possible reconciliation with his father fails because of Philips' feelings for Rosalia.

Rosalia invites Philip to a feast that takes place in her home. During the festival, Rosalia secretly meets with him. When Cristobál suddenly shows up, a fencing duel breaks out between him and Philip. Rosalia stabs Cristobál; Philip takes the blame.

After his sentence, he left for Manila to work as a missionary. There he met Maria in a pub, who reminded him of Rosalia, and fell in love with her. He is shocked when she tells him that she has leprosy .

Under the impression of this stroke of fate, he joined the Franciscans , worked as a missionary and healed the sick. Maria is cured of her leprosy disease. In the meantime Philip leaves for New Spain with his order . Since Maria no longer has the opportunity to tell him about her healing, she smuggles herself onto his ship.

When Philip and his friars fall into a doldrums, Maria is exposed. When she tells him about her healing, the wind comes up again. Philip and his friars are shipwrecked and land in Japan.
