Felix Bänziger

Felix Bänziger (* 1948 ) is a Swiss lawyer .

Life

Bänziger studied law at the University of Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1976 . In the same year he became an interrogator in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden . From 1982 to 1987 he was head of the criminal police of the St. Gallen canton police . Bänziger was then a public prosecutor for Appenzell Ausserrhoden, and from 1993 he was also the permanent representative of the federal prosecutor for German-speaking Switzerland . On August 1, 1996, Bänziger was appointed deputy to Federal Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte . From 2001 he was Deputy General Procurator of the Canton of Bern . In September 2009 he was defeated by Rolf Grädel ( SVP ) in the election of the new Bernese general procurator. In December 2009 Bänziger was elected Chief Public Prosecutor for the Canton of Solothurn. He retired at the end of May 2013.

In May 2012, the Government Council of the Canton of Zurich announced that Felix Bänziger had been commissioned to conduct a criminal investigation against Government Councilor Martin Graf . A private person had filed a criminal complaint for abuse of office and violation of official secrecy. On May 27, 2013, the Cantonal Court of Vaud appointed Bänziger to head the administrative investigation into the killing of 19-year-old Marie near Payerne . Bänziger is supposed to investigate the proceedings in the judiciary.

Felix Bänziger was also head of the ombudsman of the Swiss Society for Forensic Medicine (SGRM). He is non-party .
