Felix Bernhard (born November 22, 1973 ) is a German non-fiction author , speaker and management consultant .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1993, Bernhard had a serious motorcycle accident and has been paraplegic ever since . After a six-month stay in a clinic, he began studying economics at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau . He then went to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on a scholarship from the state of Baden-Württemberg . There he studied business administration and theater directing and graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1999. Felix Bernhard then worked in the USA for 18 months before returning to Germany.

From 2001 to 2008 he worked for a German bank in various positions before moving to another financial institution to take on management roles. In 2003 he made a pilgrimage first wheelchair 800 kilometers on the Camino de Santiago on the Camino Francés from Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela . In 2004, the Chemin de Saint Jacuqes followed from Le Puy en Velay 700 kilometers to the Spanish border. After the death of his father in 2005, he made a pilgrimage of 1200 kilometers on the Via de la Plata from Seville to Cape Finisterre . His first book " On the trail of your own life - as a pilgrim on the Way of St. James " was published in 2007 about this journey . The book was 15 weeks on the mirror - bestseller list and made it to the mirror's list of Top 100 years Bestsellers (hardcover nonfiction). After further trips on the Way of St. James through Germany and Poland, he led a group of six pilgrims on the Caminho Português from Porto to Santiago de Compostela.

In 2010 his second book “ Running away is not - another perspective on life ” was published. In it he describes how the wheelchair became his personal coach and how the changed perspective in particular enriches life. As the first stand-up comedian in a wheelchair, he appeared at Nightwash, among others .

In 2012 he and the Federal Minister of Transport, Peter Ramsauer, opened a new campaign for “Runter vom Gas”. In the same year Bernhard made a pilgrimage for six months alone over 5,500 kilometers from Frankfurt am Main via Rome to Jerusalem .

In 2016 he made it into the top 15 applicants for the SWR3 Comedy Prize.
