NightWash is a German comedy format in which young up-and-coming artists and new stand-up comedians have the chance to perform in front of an audience with their program. The television show was hosted by Klaus-Jürgen Deuser for eleven years before Luke Mockridge inherited it. Together with Mockridge's change of moderation, Uli Grewe took on the role of the musical sidekick . Programs with Mockridge began broadcasting September 26, 2013. Tahnee Schaffarczyk hosted the comedy format from 2016 to 2018, and Simon Stäblein has been the host since then . Atze Schröder has been leading the issues broadcast on Sat.1 since September 2019 . After Das Lumpenpack , Sven Bensmann is now responsible for the musical accompaniment.

The unusual and eponymous thing about NightWash is the location, a laundromat . Its window front acts as the backdrop for the stage, while the audience sits in front of or on the washing machines.

NightWash was broadcast on One every Thursday at 8:15 p.m. until the fall of 2017 . Since September 13, 2019, the format has been running in the late program on Sat.1 .

history

NightWash was broadcast on WDR television from 2001 to 2006 and on the first (one season from October 2003). The venue until 2007 was a laundromat in the Belgian Quarter in Cologne.

From January 2007 to October 2009 the show was broadcast on Comedy Central . With the second season (since September 2007) on Comedy Central, the programs were initially recorded in Cologne's Gloria Theater . The reason for this was given by presenter Klaus-Jürgen Deuser at the beginning of the first episode of the new season, the closure of the previously used laundromat. He indicated that the laundromat operator closed his salon for economic reasons. Most of the style elements known from the laundromat - such as the band or the mopping table with the VIP guests (mostly a clique of NightWash fans) - have been retained.

Since switching to TV channel One in November 2009, the program has been recorded in a laundromat in the Zollstock district of Cologne .

Some comedians such as Hennes Bender , Mario Barth , Heinz Gröning or Ausbilder Schmidt had their first television appearances at NightWash .

NightWash Special: NightWash Special is a further development of the comedy format NightWash. The inventor and presenter Klaus-Jürgen Deuser presented a comedian who played part of his solo program in a half-hour stage program live in front of an audience. The stage show was recorded for television and is broadcast regularly on Comedy Central.
NightWash Ultra: NightWash Ultra is a special format without moderation in the laundry. Only those artists appear there who could not be shown on television due to the airtime. The moderator Klaus-Jürgen Deuser and "Die Band" Alex Flucht make shorter transitions between the performances, in which they are shown, for example, while shopping or having breakfast. Recordings of the individual shows are shown on video.nightwash.de and the comedy platform MySpass.de.

Events outside of television

NightWash Club: In addition to the television program, NightWash is also touring Germany with a live show with a changing program and has set up a unique Germany-wide club system. There are now NightWash clubs in 21 German cities.

NightWash on Tour: In addition to the clubs, NightWash goes on tour in Germany once or twice a year. On the tours the show will be presented by Klaus-Jürgen Deuser and his "band" Alex Flucht. The performances take place in front of around 500 spectators.

Night Wash Live: Since the beginning of 2008 there has been a laundromat in Cologne again, now in the Zollstock district (Eco-Express laundromat on Höninger Weg 134), in which a Night Wash show takes place every few weeks .
