Felix Ivo Leicher (born May 19, 1727 in Wagstadt , Moravia , † February 20, 1812 in Neubau ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Leicher was originally a weaver by trade. 1745–49 he became a student of the otherwise unknown painter Franz Schaffer and in 1751 came to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , where he was a student of Franz Anton Maulbertsch . In 1754 he received a 2nd prize for his painting Anointing Saul . Leicher was a permanent colleague of Maulbertsch, from whose works it is often difficult to distinguish his own, as he remained stylistically attached to his teacher throughout his life. Some paintings were also signed jointly by both artists. Leicher mainly painted religious themes as altarpieces for churches in Vienna, but in 1786 he also had an exhibition of his paintings with secular subjects.
