Rocks and hillside forests in the Altmühltal and Wellheimer dry valley (ID: 7132-471) is the name of a European bird sanctuary in Bavaria . Within the framework of the Birds Directive ( Natura 2000 ) that came into force in 1979, it essentially serves to implement the Bern Convention and covers an area of ​​3,611  hectares .

The area is mostly in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt , and partly in the neighboring districts of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen ( Middle Franconia ) and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen (Upper Bavaria). It includes the south of the Franconian Alb with beech-rich hillside forests, rocks, grasslands , juniper heaths and sometimes wide floodplains, such as the Altmühltal or the Wellheimer dry valley . It is not a closed area, but consists of numerous smaller parts.

The bird sanctuary is located within the main natural area of ​​the Southern Franconian Alb (082).
