Ferdinand Friedensburg (numismatist)

Ferdinand Friedensburg , pseudonym: F. Montanus , (born February 11, 1858 in Liegnitz , Province of Silesia ; † February 5, 1930 in Hirschberg , Province of Lower Silesia ) was a German lawyer and numismatist .

Life

He was the son of the district judge, later mayor of Breslau, Ferdinand Friedensburg, and studied law at the University of Breslau after attending school . In 1878 he passed the trainee exam, in 1884 the assessor exam, then worked in Schweidnitz , became an assistant judge in Breslau in 1887 and a district judge in Gleiwitz in 1889 . In 1891 he was appointed to the Reich Insurance Office in Berlin and there in 1900 he was secret councilor and senate president. In 1909 he retired and moved to Breslau.

In his free time he was intensively concerned with the history of coins in Silesia and also with German history and became one of the most productive numismatists of his time. He completed his habilitation in numismatics at the University of Wroclaw, where he also taught as a private lecturer.

In 1908 he donated his collection of Silesian medieval coins to the Silesian Museum of Applied Arts and Antiquities in Wroclaw. In 1924 his second coin collection was auctioned off at Adolph E. Cahn's in Frankfurt, and after his death in 1930 his numismatic library there too.

The politician Ferdinand Friedensburg , born in Schweidnitz in 1886, emerged from his marriage to Severin, born in Clara .
