Ferdinand Karl Rothpletz
Ferdinand Karl Rothpletz , also Carl Rothpletz (born March 15, 1814 in Aarau ; † April 23, 1885 ibid) was a Swiss architect .
life and work
From 1836 Rothpletz studied architecture under Friedrich von Gärtner at the Royal Academy in Munich . After completing his studies, he returned to Switzerland and in the early 1840s worked mainly in the Burgdorf region . After the successful construction management of the infantry barracks by Joseph Caspar Jeuch in Aarau, Rothpletz was elected Aarau Cantonal Master Builder in 1849 , an office that he held until 1885. During his term of office, in addition to countless conversions and renovations of school and rectory houses as well as churches, the construction of the Aarau town hall (1856–1857) and cantonal bank (1858–1860) and the Lenzburg prison (1860–1864, based on plans by Robert Moser ) . The parish church of St. Martin in Zufikon (1865–1868) is his only new church, followed by the psychiatric clinic in Windisch - a conversion of the former Königsfelden abbey (1868–1972, according to his own plans) - and the Pestalozzi school in Aarau (1872 –1875), the old cavalry barracks there (1877–1879). The Villa Fischer-Eichenberger (1881–1882) in Meisterschwanden is known as a late work .
The Aargau State Archives have around 450 plans from Rothpletz for various cantonal construction projects.
