Ferdinand Karl Freiherr von Zandt (born September 15, 1783 in Düsseldorf , † September 26, 1826 there ) was a royal Westphalian general, Prussian major general and inspection officer of the Bavarian military studs.

Life

His parents were Joseph Nepomuk von Zandt (* July 27, 1746 - October 17, 1830) and his wife Charlotte, née von Katterbach († April 12, 1763).

Life

Zandt went into Bavarian service on February 4, 1803 , joined the "Elector" regiment as a standard junker, and on September 5, 1803 , became a second lieutenant . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought with the French against the Prussians at the siege of Schweidnitz . There Zandt was wounded by five sword blows in an outpost battle on November 16, 1806. He also fought in the capture of Wartha and the battles at Königswalde, Kanth and Fürstenstein. For this he was made Knight of the Legion of Honor on March 5, 1807 . For brave behavior in front of Glatz, Zandt also received the Military Max Joseph Order on September 26, 1807 . In April 1807 he was assigned to the headquarters of Prince Jérôme .

After the Peace of Tilsit , he became King of Westphalia and drew Zandt into his service. There he advanced to colonel in 1812 and took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 . In 1814 he was appointed general brigadier of the Westphalian troops. After the collapse, Zandt turned to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III in April 1814 . but did not get a job.

On June 26, 1815, he changed to the Prussian service as major general and was assigned to major general Leopold Wilhelm von Dobschütz . But he didn't have a real job. Already on September 17, 1816 he received his departure , after he had already been employed as an inspection officer by the Bavarian military stud system on June 3, 1816. On June 20, 1817, he received his release from Bavarian services. He died on September 26, 1826 in Düsseldorf.

Zandt married Luise Linden (born November 19, 1793 - November 17, 1882) on April 17, 1822, a daughter of the Linden State Councilor. From the marriage the son Peter Josef Walter (* April 28, 1823 - June 20, 1913) emerged, the Prussian chamberlain and major a. D. in the 8th Hussar Regiment . He was also the owner of the Mahrhof and married Franziska von Pelden called Cloudt.
