Ferdinand Schmatz (born February 3, 1953 in Korneuburg , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian writer , experimental poet and essayist.

Life

Ferdinand Schmatz graduated from the Technological Trade Museum in Vienna in 1972 and studied German , history and philosophy at the University of Vienna . He received his doctorate in 1982 with a dissertation on Karl Hans Strobl's Bismarck trilogy .

From 1983 to 1985 Schmatz was lecturer for German language and literature at Nihon University Tokyo , Japan , from 1985 to 1987 lecturer for contemporary literature at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz . Schmatz also worked as a consultant for the Killy literary lexicon for Austrian literature of the 20th century. From 1989 to 1992 he had lectureships on "Writing and Book" and on "Art and Poetics in the 20th Century" at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , where in 1992 he was visiting professor for free graphics . Schmatz has headed the Institute for Linguistic Art at the Angewandte in Vienna since 2012 .

He published his first works as early as 1975; his poetry is shaped by the experimental literature of the Viennese group. In 1995 and 1996 Schmatz was a juror for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize .

Ferdinand Schmatz is the administrator and editor of Reinhard Priessnitz's works and lives as a freelance writer in Vienna and Burgenland. Schmatz's part is in the Austrian National Library, in the literature archive. The first part contains 78 archive boxes, the second consists of two archive boxes and a large format folder.
