Ferdinand "Ferdl" Wallner (born July 7, 1930 in Bischofshofen ) is a former Austrian ski jumper and ski jumping official.

Career

Wallner began his sports career in early childhood. In 1949 he came to SC Bischofshofen as an alpine ski racer .

In 1957 he made the jump into the national team and made his international debut with the start of the Four Hills Tournament in 1957/58 . However, he only contested the jumping in Bischofshofen on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze . After finishing 46th there, he finished 61st in the overall ranking. The following year he competed in all four competitions for the first time in the Four Hills Tournament 1958/59 . He managed to jump into the top 30 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bischofshofen. In the overall standings he was 25th. The Four Hills Tournament 1959/60 went even better for him , where he finished 18th on his home hill in Bischofshofen for the first time achieved a top 20 placement. After jumping under the top 30 three times before, he reached 20th place in the overall ranking, his best overall result. In the following year he jumped to 16th place in the Four Hills Tournament 1960/61 on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck and thus achieved his best individual result. The Wallner jumped only weakly in the other competitions, he finished the tour as 37th overall.

In his fifth and last Four Hills Tournament in 1961/62 , after a 67th place in Bischofshofen in the overall standings, he only ended up in 85th and penultimate place.

After the end of his career in 1964, Wallner started a coaching career and in 1965 took over a coaching position at the Salzburg State Ski Association. For the 1968/69 season he switched to the Austrian Ski Association , where he became a school coach. After he held this position until 1973, he and his junior jumpers , including Toni Innauer , Karl Schnabl , Alfred Groyer and Alois Lipburger, were promoted to the youth squad. He took over one of the coaching posts under head coach Max Golser . In 1974 he passed the state trainer examination. He later became a B coach and from 1984 to 1988 he was assistant coach for the Austrian national team under head coach Paul Ganzenhuber . After the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 , he resigned from his posts with the ÖSV. Overall, he worked as a trainer and supervisor at two Olympic Games, nine World Championships, four European Championships and many national and international competitions.

From 1988 to 2002 he was ski jumping trainer at SC Bischofshofen. In addition, Wallner was active as the state cup coordinator at the Salzburg State Ski Association from 1993 to 1995. From 1996 to 2002 he held the position of Nordic sports attendant at SC Bischofshofen.

From 1999 to 2009 Wallner was in charge of the International Children's Four Hills Tournament as coordinator , to which he contributed the idea and which he initiated together with Bernhard Zauner from UVB Hinzenbach .
