Fernando Fragata

Fernando Fragata (* 1969 in Estoril ) is a Portuguese film director .

Career

Fragata began as a cameraman ( steadicam operator) for commercials and video clips , then increasingly also for film work, etc. a. for the directors Joaquim Leitão , Ana Luisa Guimarães and Quirino Simões . In 1995 he switched to directing himself and made his first short film with Diogo Infante in the lead role.

His first feature film came out in 1998. The romantic action comedy with Catarina Furtado and Diogo Infante was followed by an entertaining thriller with black humor and suspense with the self-written low-budget production Sort Nula . The film was a surprise success.

He was shooting another action film for television, then his vision of commercial cinema and its limited options in Portugal made him go to Hollywood . He made his most successful film to date with Joaquim de Almeida , Scott Bailey , Skyler Day (from the television series Gigantic ) and Evelina Pereira (from Friends with Certain Benefits ).

His last two films are still among the 10 most successful Portuguese cinema films since 2004.
