Fernando Fabricio Platas Álvarez (born March 16, 1973 in Mexico City ) is a former Mexican diver . He started in artificial jumping from the 1-m and 3-m board and in 10-m tower diving and in 3-m and 10-m synchronized jumping. He won several medals in the Olympic Games, World Championships and Pan American Games.

Platas took part in four Olympic Games . In 1992 in Barcelona he reached 17th place on the 3-meter board, in 1996 in Atlanta he qualified for two finals, on the 3-meter board he was eighth and on the 10-meter tower seventh. In 2000 in Sydney he won the silver medal on the 3-meter board, in the 3-meter synchronized jumping he was fifth with Eduardo Rueda . In 2004 he took part in Athens for the last time. He was fifth on the 3-meter board.

At FINA World Championships Platas took a total of some five times, the first time in 1991 in Rome . In 2001 in Fukuoka he won silver medals in both synchronous competitions, of 3 m with Joel Rodríguez and 10 m with Eduardo Rueda.

Platas was also successful in the Pan American Games. He was able to win a total of seven medals, including three gold medals.

Platas ended his active career after the 2004 Olympics.
