Fernando de Sousa e Silva (born December 5, 1712 in Lisbon , † April 11, 1786 , ibid) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church and Patriarch of Lisbon.

Life

The son of the Count of Sant'Iago attended the University of Coimbra , where he also obtained a licentiate in canon law . He had already received the tonsure on April 13, 1721, followed by the Minores on September 17, 1734 and the ordination of deacons on December 20, 1738. He was ordained a priest on May 10, 1739 . As Episcopal Vicar and Canon of the Lisbon Cathedral , de Sousa was appointed Patriarch of Lisbon on March 1, 1779 and was ordained episcopal on May 30, 1779. Pope Pius VI elevated the patriarch to cardinal on June 1, 1778 and awarded him the rank of cardinal priest , but without assigning him a title church.
