The TV tower Roermond ( Dutch Zendmast Roermond ) is a 197.69 meter high reinforced concrete television tower in Roermond in the Netherlands .

history

The tower was rebuilt in June 2008 with the help of a cargo helicopter from Switzerland (Helog Heliswiss). The old, 22 m high, red and white GRP antenna has been replaced by the new DVB-T transmission antenna from Kathrein. Since July 1st, 2008, the television tower in Roermond has been used again as a DVB-T transmitter after the old DVB-T transmitter was switched off on May 26th, 2007. The tower was built in 1957 and is used to supply the basic network for radio programs in the VHF and TV areas. At analogue times he broadcast the Dutch public programs with 50 kW on K5 and 250 kW on K31 and K34. Its broadcast signal reached into the Düsseldorf / Krefeld area of the Lower Rhine and its TV signals were received even east of Cologne.

The new, only 10 kW DVB-T television station broadcasts in the UHF range on channel 54, among other things. It mainly supplies the region around Roermond. Originally people spoke in various forums about the fact that the owner KPN wanted to switch off the transmitter as a DVB-T location. The transmitter was switched off on May 26, 2007 and temporarily replaced by three new transmitter locations in Heerlen , Maastricht and Venlo . Since the Dutch regulatory authority had determined well in advance through various measurements that the three planned transmitters might not be sufficient for mobile coverage and in-house reception, KPN re- coordinated the Roermond location. And so the Roermond transmitter mast is broadcasting DVB-T again in addition to the usual VHF programs. Due to the strongly directional signal on all DVB-T channels, receiving the Dutch DVB-T programs on the Lower Rhine is much more difficult (sometimes impossible) and involves a lot of effort.
