Ferrières is a district of the southern French town of Martigues in the Bouches-du-Rhône department . It forms the northern half of the municipality of Martigues and lies on the banks of the Étang de Berre and the Canal de Caronte .

history

In the Middle Ages, Ferrières was an independent market town in the vicinity of the town of Lisle , located on an island in the Canal de Caronte . In April 1581, the newly founded town of Martigues emerged from the two towns and the market town of Jonquières south of the canal .
