Festenburg is a village in the municipality of Sankt Lorenzen am Wechsel in Styria with 158 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). Individual houses in the settlement to the right of the Hinteren Waldbach belong to the Waldbach-Mönichwald community .
Festenburg is located northwest of Sankt Lorenzen and can be reached via Bruck an der Lafnitz . The Rotten Demmeldorf, Dorfstatt, Dreibach, Greith and Höfern are also in the local area . The hard castle , originally built in 1200 Monastery Castle, located above the village.
There has been a school in Festenburg since 1712, which was initially housed in the castle and moved into the newly built schoolhouse in Demmeldorf in 1902. In 1973 the school house was expanded and rebuilt. In memory of the poet Ottokar Kernstock , the school today bears the name Dr. Ottokar Kernstock Elementary School .
In Festenburg, Hinterer (with the Breingrabenbach ) and Vorderer Waldbach merge to form the Black Lafnitz .
