Fidelis Scheu (born May 30, 1780 in Donaueschingen , † July 10, 1830 in Marienbad ) was a German-Bohemian physician , balneologist and specialist writer .

Life

Scheu's father was a civil servant on the estates of the Prince von Fürstenberg , first in Donaueschingen in Baden-Württemberg, and later in Northern Bohemia . After studying philosophy and medicine at Charles University in Prague and the University of Vienna, Fidelis received his doctorate in medicine in Prague in 1807. He then worked as a city ​​physician on the Lesser Town in Prague and was a city doctor in Rumburg in 1813 .

In 1820 he became the successor of Johann Joseph Nehr (1757-1820) as a monastery doctor in the Premonstratensian Abbey of Stift Tepl and well and bath doctor in the monastery spa town of Marienbad . It was there that he met Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , with whom he remained friends until his death. From his on-site experience, he wrote a number of medical writings, some of which he published as books and some in medical journals such as Hufeland’s Journal .
