The branch church Baumgarten an der March is located in the northeast of the village Baumgarten an der March in the municipality Weiden an der March in the district Gänserndorf in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic branch church consecrated to the Evangelist Markus belongs to the deanery Gänserndorf in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The Romanesque church was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. 1733 was a slight baroqueization .

architecture

The small Romanesque choir tower church is surrounded by a cemetery.

The elongated nave with strong ashlar masonry has small baroque round windows in the cornice zone. The church has a baroque stone portal with 1733 in a small vestibule in the south. The north portal is walled up. There is a remarkable Romanesque funnel window with painted radial rays in the reveal. The baroque sacristy is kept simple. The massive two-storey tower is a former defensive tower , with ashlar masonry at the bottom, with quarry stone at the top, a walled round arched high entrance above the baroque arched window on the south side, the east side has an early Gothic pointed arched window, the upper floor has baroque sound windows , the tower has a newer pointed helmet.

The interior of the church shows itself as a flat-roofed four-bay nave with flat double pilasters . The triumphal arch is round and has a plastered area. The organ loft has a flat arch. The narrow, slightly raised choir is also the first floor of the tower and has a baroque cross vault on flat pilasters.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar is a small, compact columnar altar from the end of the 17th century with mighty entablature. The altarpiece shows the church patron St. Mark. Putti are shown on the extract . The simple, baroque side altars were made in the middle of the 18th century. The left picture shows a representation of Mary with the body of Jesus Christ , the picture on the right, the so-called plague altar, the Saints Sebastian, Rochus and Rosalia .

Further furnishings include an Immaculata picture in a rococo frame from the second half of the 18th century, pictures of the Stations of the Cross from the mid-19th century and a bell by Georg Wiesenauer from 1649.
