The Roman Catholic branch church Briefelsdorf in the municipality of Feldkirchen , village of Briefelsdorf, is located on a hill east of the Maltschacher See . It is dedicated to the apostles Philip and James minor . The church was first mentioned in a document in 1531. It belongs to the parish of Klein St. Veit .

Building description

The church is surrounded by a cemetery wall. It is a small Gothic building from the 14th century with a retracted choir and an eastern roof turret . The roofs are covered with stone slabs. The bell was cast by David Polster in 1644. The pointed arch portal is protected by a canopy on two wooden supports.

Inside, a small, pointed arched triumphal arch with warrior stones connects the flat-roofed nave with the small choir with lancet vault and quintuple closure . The wooden west gallery was built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Century painted with Christ and the twelve apostles. Small pointed arched windows from the 14th century have been preserved in the choir. The windows of the nave have been changed.

The exterior was renovated in summer 2015.

The high altar

The high altar from the third quarter of the 17th century consists of an aedicule with vine columns, cranked entablature and lateral fruit pendants, cherub heads on the lateral ears and cartilage on the base, entablature and lateral ears. In the shrine are the figures of the apostle Philip with a cross and a book as well as James the Elder with scallops, travel bag, pumpkin bottle and pilgrim's staff as attributes . The top picture shows the baptism of Jesus .

The left side altar from 1713 is a small wall altar, rich in foliage and ribbon work , with the figure of St. Catherine . In the shrine of the right side altar, a rococo altar from 1751, there is a popular figure of John the Baptist from the beginning of the 18th century. In the essay picture the eye of providence is shown.

A Gothic crucifixion group from the beginning of the 16th century with Mary and John as assistant figures is attached above the triumphal arch . The small figurative baptismal group on the north wall of the nave on the lid of a baptismal font is a popular work from the Baroque period .
