The Roman Catholic branch church Lorenzenberg is a church in the local community Micheldorf in Carinthia . It is a branch of the parish church Micheldorf and dedicated to St. Laurentius .

The building is located east of Micheldorf on a steep rock cone above the Metnitztal . The church was first mentioned in a document in 1043. It is surrounded by a churchyard that was used as a cemetery until the end of the 18th century. Ramparts go back to a late antique or early medieval castrum.

Forest path to the church

From the street, a short footpath leads up to the wooded hilltop, on which the abandoned cemetery is located within a circular wall, in the middle of which the branch church is built.

Building description

The early Gothic building has a flat-roofed nave , on the north wall of which there is a sacrament niche. The slightly retracted, just closed choir is also covered with a flat roof. Below is the arched leg chamber with a central support. The Gothic sacristy extension was placed on the northeast side and has a renewed roof turret . At the west portal there is a fragment of a Roman coffered cover plate. On the western outer wall there is also a fragment of a consecration altar for the Junones and the gable of a grave stele depicting an eagle and a pilaster in relief with an acanthus motif and a fragment of plait stripes. The ridge cap with a ram skull can be seen from the gable of a grave building. Can be found on the south wall of the choir on the outside remains of Christopher - fresco .

The church underwent an interior restoration in 2000.

Facility

The baroque main altar, created in 1695, has an attachment that has been bent for reasons of space. The altar leaf shows the torture of St. Laurentius, the painted leather antependium represents St. Lucia. An older altar leaf or epitaph with Laurentium smarter , marked 1629, is present in a rich polychrome carved frame. A Catherine altar created in the late 17th century has an altar panel and carved figures of Saints Barbara and Saint Margaretha on the side. A late Gothic carved altar around 1500 has a painted predella with a Vera icon; The carved figures are currently in safekeeping in the Friesach City Museum: a Mother of God with child around 1300, a Saint Laurentius from the 14th century, a Christ Salvator from the end of the 15th century, a Saint Martin from the first quarter of the 16th century, as well as the figures of the Catherine Altars. The pulpit was created in the second quarter of the 17th century.

The two bells come on the one hand from Christof Pfinzing, designated 1528, on the other hand from Christoph Pfinzing from the year 1578. Ancient wall remains are on the dome around the church.
